Fly Fishing in High Water

Author : Cameron Larsen

A long, long time ago, I remember waking up at 3 a.m., on a Saturday. I say waking up, although I don't think I ever went to sleep. It was opening day eve, as good as Christmas eve, in my seven year old way of thinking. Our destination was more than three hours away, to the land of huge trout, and lots of them. Silently, in the light of the moon, my Dad and I climbeed in his Ford Falcon and began are ardous three hour journey to the land of Big Fish. Thta magical mysterious place was, across the Cascade Mountains at the legendary Deschutes River. Home of montser trout. I dozed somewhat on the drive over, waking up to donuts and hot chocolate, as we rambled through the forest. At last, we descended on the flat juniper country of the 'East side', and finally began our twisting descent down the canyon to the mighty river. With my dog, I pressed my nose to the window glass, drooling with anticpation. As we crossed over, I didn't notice the off-color water or the river spilling here and there over it's natural banks. But I did notice my Dad's groan. We stopped, stretched our legs, used the bushes, and then I heard my Dad say, 'blown out.' I was curious and inquired, and learned the river was 'blown out', flooded, too high to fish. Each exclamation of the river more seriuos than the last. Until, I realized fishing wasn't going to happen today. As bad as life gets at seven, as bad as no Santa Claus. We threw rocks into the roaring mess, walked around some more, I learned about rock formations, local flora, and then we were off, back to home.Today I live two blocks from that legendary river, and have learned a thing or two about high water fishing. I have had success here and on other rivers using some very simple techniques.Where to find fish:If the current is raging, fish don't really want to be out in it anymore than fly fishers do. They tend to hole up, in slower water, and luckily for us closer to shore. Look for pockets and pools, close in that will provide likely water. Riffles that are normally too shallow, will provide a feeding lane in high water. The nice thing is wading is not required if the fish are lying close to the bank. A word of caution here, high water wading can be extremly dangerous. Water is murky and visibility can be nil, underwater footing can change dramatically. Even if fishing familiar water, the under water terrain could have changed since last fished. A wading staff can help, but fishing from the bank is better yet. Fish behavior:As mentioned above, fish don't want to be in the heavy current anymore than you do. But they don't stop feeding. On the contrary, spring run off brings with it the speeding of fish's metabolism, and likewise their desire to eat. Although rising fish are much less likely, fish eat up to 90% of their diet sub-surface anyway. So unless there are peculiarities to your particular river, prepare for sub-surface fishing. This can be disappointing to some diehard dry fly fisher's. But because fish are close in, you may not have such easy access to large fish again, the entire year. Not that you cannot get a fish to rise in high water. It is possible. I recommend using big bushy fly patterns. For two reasons, one is visibility is poor, and two they float better through turbid waters. Usual rough water attractors are the flies I call on, including Royal Wulff and Stimulators. High floating Foam Hoppers, or Chernobyl Ants also work well. But by and large fish are feeding sub-surface, in murky waters. And that calls for some special rigging and techniuqes.High Water Techniques:The murky water can be a fly fisher's friend. For one thing fish are less easily spooked, and they seem to feel more 'secure' hidden in their sanctuary of dark high water. For this reason you can shorten up those tippets and use stouter tippets than one would normally choose. If 6X is the norm for your particular river go down to 4X. The advantage of the stouter tippet comes into play when you are snagging up on the bottom. I sometimes avoid the use of a strike indicator during high water, so I can better feel the river bottom. As mentioned above fish in high water can be bigger than average, and with the stronger current, you'll putting quite a bit of pressure on your tippet trying to land that big fish.Murky water typically calls for nymphs, wet flies and streamers. The ones popular in your particular area, should work in the high water. Remember nymphs are having difficulty moving around too, and much more likely to be knocked free. Rigging up with a size or two bigger than norm also helps, as trout are likey to feed on free floating nymphs more than emerging ones, at this time. If in doubt as to what to use, start with the basics, Hare's Ear, Pheasant Tail, Stonefly nymphs. Using beadheads will helps in visiblility and in a faster sink rate. Vary the split shots you use. And don't forget to in a streamer or two as well. Aggravators are notioursly good high water patterns are are Dead drifting these as close to the bottom as possible, and be prepared for hard strikes. If success doesn't come, try using a two fly set up, and probe at different levels. When you find something that works, stick with it. And when you find fish stay there, fish are less likely to move on, so you are apt to get more fish in one spot then normal. One last advantage of high water fishing, is relative solitude. Most fly fisher's will still see a river as 'blown out', like my Dad all those years ago. The one's that do try, usually don't have their heart in it. But for those that are patient and try the technique's featured here, their reward quite likely will be some very big fish to remember.

How And Why Of Giving Away Free Domain Names

Author : Stephen Pope
Perhaps you already know that it is possible to get a free domain name. However, have you ever wondered how a country can afford to give away its domain names for free? Why would a country just give away its domain names instead of charging for them?

1. Free Domain Names from Dot TK

It is possible to get a free top-level domain name from Dot TK (www.dot.tk).

According to their website, "Dot TK is a joint venture of the Government of Tokelau, it's communication company Teletok and Taloha, Inc., a privately held company. The Government of Tokelau has appointed Taloha, Inc. as the exclusive registration entity."

Of course, for free .tk domains, ownership remains with Dot TK. This means that you can't sell it. As well, there are other restrictions and disadvantages of free .tk domains, including:

-You can register only a maximum of three free domain names;
-You need 25 visitors within a ninety day period;
-You need to have existing web content somewhere so that your dot tk name can be forwarded to it; and
-Dot TK uses frames to show your website. This being the case, you may have issues with navigation (bookmarking or finding specific pages) and search engine friendliness.

For serious business use, you might want to pay the nominal cost for a domain name.

2. Why Do They Offer Free Domain Names?

Still, it is free. Why would they do this when they could make money from the sale of domain names?

According to their website: "Why does Dot TK give away free domain names? We believe that the Internet was supposed to be 'Free'. Meaning no charges, payments or expected return favors."

3. How Can They Afford to Give Away Free Domain Names?

This logically leads us to our next question: How can they afford to give away free domain names?

Dot TK makes money from paid domain names, including some special and trademarked names.

To help support Dot TK, you can optionally have an ad displayed on your website. Thus, they do receive some advertising revenue from this. However, the big money would be in the sponsorship by large corporations.

4. Other Free Top-Level Domain Names

By the way, this is not the only ccTLD (country code Top-Level Domain) that gives away some domain names for free.

As just one example, cg is the ccTLD for the Republic of Congo. Each of its citizens and lawful residents are allowed one free .cg domain name.

5. Free Subdomain Names

Additionally, subdomain names are also available for free. For example, eu.org states on their website that their goal "is to provide free subdomain registration to users or non-profit organizations who cannot afford the outrageous fees demanded by some NICs, especially in Europe."

As well, nr is the ccTLD name for the Republic of Nauru. You can receive a free subdomain name from co.nr. Thus, your domain name could be something like yourcompany.co.nr.

Why do countries give away free domain names? They want their citizens and others to be able to enjoy the benefits of domain name use without cost being an issue. It can also be a promotional method designed to get the word out about their ccTLD.

How can these countries afford to give away free domain names? Advertising revenue and the sale of paid domains are two ways of funding free domain names.

Diabetes and its Management

Author : Sahil Mehta
Diabetes Mellitus is one of the most costly burdensome chronic diseases of our time and is condition that is increasing in epidemic population in the whole world. The complications resulting from the diseases are a significant cause of morbidity and mortality and are associated with failure of various organs such as the eyes, kidneys and nerves. Diabetics are also at a significantly higher risk for coronary artery disease, peripheral vascular disease and stroke and they have a greater likelihood of having hypertension dyslipidemia and obesity. What is Diabetes?Diabetes is a serious disorder of the glands, of pancreas to be exact, called Madhumeha in Ayurveda. It is one of the most insidious disorders of the metabolism and, if left undiagnosed, may lead to rapid emaciation and ultimately death. What are the types of Diabetes?According to Ayurveda Diabetes is of two types: Diabetes Mellitus- Insulin dependent Juvenile Diabetes (IDDM-Type I) in which the body is unable to produce insulin and Non Insulin Dependent Adult Onset Diabetes (NIDDM-Type II) in which the pancreas produces insulin, but it is insufficient for reducing the blood glucose to normal levels. What are the common symptoms of Type- 1 Diabetes? Some of the common symptoms of Type- 1 Diabetes are:Excessive ThirstFrequent urinationUnexplained weight lossIrritabilityWeaknessFatigueWhat are the common symptoms of Type- 2 Diabetes? Some of the common symptoms of Type- 2 Diabetes are:Loss off weightNumbness in hands or feet.Uncontrolled infectionsPain in the limbsInflammatory chest infectionsDimness of vision, contrastExcessive thirstBody weaknessWhat are the different tests for Diabetes?Urine Test: Some chemicals are added to a few drops of urine. Colour change indicates presence of glucose in urine.Blood Test: In this, blood is taken to test the glucose level. This is more accurate test to confirm diabetesWhich parts of my body are affected by Diabetes?Blood Vessels: Higher level of glucose damage the blood vessels. As a result of this most of the diabetic complications occur in blood vessels.Heart: Diabetes affects the heart by: Increasing the amount of fat in blood and increasing the amount of homocysteine in blood.Kidney: In diabetes because of increased levels of glucose, kidneys have to do extra work to retain essential substances and separate waste products to produce urine. This affects the small blood vessels and their capacity to filter. After many years of work, it leads to kidney failure.Eyes: Diabetes affects blood vessels of the eyes. Damage to these blood vessels leads to eye problems like: Damage to retina, Cataract or total loss of visionFoot: Damage to blood vessels reduces blood flow to the feet and increases risk of developing foot ulcers and infections.Nerves: High glucose level for a long time damages nerves. Nerve damage reduces sensation in some parts of body which may lead to: Numbness and tingling, Fainting and dizzinessHow do I know if my diabetes medicines are working?Learn to test your blood glucose. Ask your doctor about the best testing tools for you and how often to test. After you test your blood glucose, write down your blood glucose test results. Then ask your doctor teacher if your diabetes medicines are working. A good blood glucose reading before meals is between 70 and 140 mg/dL.Ask your doctor about how low or how high your blood glucose should get before you take action. For many people, blood glucose is too low below 70 mg/dL and too high above 240 mg/dL.One other number to know is the result of a blood test your doctor does called the A1C. It shows your blood glucose control during the past 2 to 3 months. For most people, the target for A1C is less than 7 percent.Home Remedies for Diabetes:The best remedy for this disease is the bitter gourd, better known as ‘karela’. Eat this vegetable as often as you can or have at least one tablespoon of karela juice daily to reduce blood sugar levels in your blood and urine.Amla, due to its vitamin C content is effective in controlling diabetes. A tablespoon of its juice, mixed with a cup of fresh bitter-gourd juice, taken daily for two months will secrete the pancreas and enable it to secrete insulin.Take ten tulsi leaves, ten neem leaves and ten belpatras with a glass of water early morning on an empty stomach. It will work wonders in keeping your sugar levels under control. The leaves of Butea tree are very useful in diabetes. They reduce blood sugar and are useful in glycousia.Take two teaspoons of powdered Fenugreek seeds with milk. Two teaspoons of the seeds can also be swallowed whole, daily.Eat 10 fresh fully grown curry leaves every morning for three months. It prevent diabetes due to heredity factors. It also cures diabetes due to obesity.More on http://www.ayurvediccure.com/diabetes.htm*100% safe and Natural Ayurvedic Medicines for Arthritis, Gout, Weight Control, Diabetes, Heart, Vigour and Vitality, Menstruation, Skin Care... made from Traditional Ayurvedic Herbs. Abatement Algorithm for Computer Cache Acceleration

Author : Lance Winslow
For computers to run at optimum often they need to dump the cache in short-term memory. But how does a computer decide what to keep and delete? Sure, yes you can set preferences on larger systems to help them run better and even on your own PC you can establish part of your hard drive as virtual memory. You can adjust your Internet Settings for storage too and there are other things you can do. But if you had a sub-hard drive area to put temporary stuff you might need but seldom used and you had an abatement algorithm to comb thru your memory cache then you could speed your system up so that it allocated first priority data. And for you little PC you might say so what?Indeed I here you, but lets now consider a Net-Centric Warfare system, with many smaller units running their own systems and perhaps temporarily autonomous due to operations beyond line of sight or in temporary radio silence. Now then all data collected is important but a first light or first communication opportunity the most importation data needs to be sent quickly to insure it gets through and then stored on the hard drive, while the less important data could be sent back the memory and sent at next light.Lets us also consider these types of strategies for artificial intelligent robotic systems, space operations and other critical needs. Thinking out loud here, no need to read too much into this, my goal is to propel thought in your strategic mind. Consider this in 2006.Lance Winslow

Small Business Web Hosting: 11 Points Checklist

Author : Sergio Roth
There is a lot of information about web hosting. Thousands of different companies and plans. It is often hard to decide on what will fit you best, especially when you do not understand all the hosting related terminology. So what should you do then? Close your eyes and pick a company? Pick the cheapest one? The average one? I will try to help you make your decision in this article, by providing a checklist of the items you should consider when choosing a hosting company for your small business website. An important tip: avoid free hosting services for your business website. It will look as if you cannot afford to pay for hosting, and customers may think you're not serious at business. Leave those for personal websites only.1) SpaceThis is measured in MB (Megabytes) or GB (Gigabytes). One gigabyte equals 1024 Megabytes, so there is a huge difference. The space you will need depends on your website characteristics. Do you have many image files? Images take up more space than webpages themselves. To have an idea of the space you will use, add up the sizes of all your website files. Generally if you're not sure you can start with plans that include less space and upgrade later if necessary.2) Programming languageIs your site written using only plain html? Then this item in the checklist is not important. If it is written in ASP, Php, Cold Fusion, Perl, Java or any other programming language, you need to check the hosting plan to see if it supports that particular programming language. If you're not sure about which programming language was used, ask your programmer about it. If you bought a script or you use an open source one, check its requirements.3) Web Server and Operating SystemSome scripts need Apache web server to run. Others need IIS running on a Windows server. Verify your script requirements or check with your programmer to see if you need to get Linux or Windows based hosting, and if it matters which the web server is.4) Monthly TrafficThis is related to how many people will visit your site per month. Unless you chose a strange hosting package or your website is very popular, it should be enough. As with space, you can upgrade later if necessary.5) DatabaseDoes your website use a database? If so, then you need one. The hosting package may include a MySQL database, PostgreSQL, SQLServer, or Access. Again, verify your script requirements or check with your programmer to see which database you need. It is also nice to have a utility to manage the database, so look in the hosting plan details to see if they offer a tool like phpMyAdmin, for example. phpMyAdmin is a commonly used admin tool for MySQL databases.6) Common aspectsThese are normally present in most hosting plans nowadays.
-FTP: to upload files to your server.
-POP Email addresses: email accounts you can receive in your email client, not only view online. The number of pop accounts may vary from plan to plan.
-Webmail interface: to view your email from any computer. Useful if you travel, for example.7) Customer serviceIt is important that the company answers your questions promptly. Pay attention to which means they offer you to contact them. Will you have a ticketing system to ask questions and inform about problems once you're their customer?8) SSLIf you need secure pages, for example to process transactions online, check if the plan already includes this service, or if you can add it to the plan. It is common to have to pay an extra fee for this service. Keep in mind that you will also need a digital certificate so the browsers don't display an alert when visitors enter the secure pages. A digital certificate verifies your identity. It is issued by a trusted entity. You need to buy it and renew it periodically.9) Front Page extensionsIf your website is built using Front Page, then the hosting plan needs to have these extensions for your site to work properly.10) Parked Domains, Sub Domains and RedirectsIf your site will have sub domains, like sales.your-domain.com and support.your-domain.com, the hosting plan you need has to allow the creation of these sub domains. If you have more than one domain pointed to the same website, you need to check if the plan allows you to park additional domains. If you need to redirect a page (Url) to another page, you need to be able to create redirects.11) Control PanelLast, but not least. A Control Panel is a must if you want to be able to manage your site efficiently.Sergio Roth is an experienced freelance web programmer. Getting The Credit You Deserve

Author : Gabriel Avalos

Getting The Credit You Deserve By Gabriel B. Avalos, Trusted
Advisor

Tip #1: Know your score

People like you and me applying for a mortgage or a car loan are
nothing but a "number." A credit score in other words. And even
though you may be a fine citizen and pay just about every bill
on time, the Fair Isaac algorithm for predicting credit failure
may "mark" you as a poor risk using its predictive analysis.
Even if you have paid your bills on time for many years, and
someone else has claimed bankruptcy in the past three years, the
"bankrupt" person may be the one to get the credit! It's not
fair; but to understand the system you must learn some basics.

Tip #2: Get a FREE copy of your credit report

You don't have to pay anyone for a copy of your credit report!
This central site allows you to instantly receive a free credit
file disclosure, commonly called a credit report, once every 12
months from each of the nationwide consumer credit reporting
companies: Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. Visit them today at
www.annualcreditreport.com.

Tip #3: Just the past 18 months count the most

In today's credit lending environment, lenders are not looking
at the past seven years like before but rather are looking at
the last 18 months. This could be good news or this could be bad
news... If most of your mistakes are in the past, previous to
the 18-month cut off, then it's easier to qualify for credit.
But if you have had a great payment history for the last
5-years, then missed a few payments in recent months, and have
had a few other mistakes, its going to cost you dearly in
getting the best rates, or even approved for that new loan. It
is important for you to know that the past 18-months are what
count the most.

Tip #4: Know your "Middle" score

More and more these days, lenders are using third party credit
reporting agencies that take all three of your credit reports,
merge them into one, and highlight your "middle score." For
example, if you have a 680 score on Equifax, a 720 score with
TransUnion, and a 620 credit score with Experian, then 680 would
be the credit score given the most attention. Most lenders look
at your middle score and determine your credit risk based on
that score. 620 is the cut off for being a "good" credit risk,
everything below 620 has a higher risk rating and may or may not
be approved for a loan. The higher the risk, the higher the
interest rate.

Tip #5: Boost your credit score

Your credit score can range from 300-850. Lenders will give you
a home loan or auto loan with a score of 500 and up. However,
the "magic" score is considered to be 720. With a credit score
above 700 the ability to get the most creative financing
available is at your finger tips. Want those car loans with zero
percent interest? Have a 720 credit rating. If you don't have a
720 credit score, try for 660. A 660 credit score still is good
enough to qualify for most loans, including a "no-income
verification" loan, something highly sought after by
self-employed people.

Baby Shower Etiquette

Author : Ron Cripps

Baby Shower EtiquetteYears ago, baby showers were never hosted by a family member. This practice was thought by most people to be tacky, appearing as if the family was asking for gifts. Thankfully, that tradition of baby shower etiquette has changed where now it is acceptable for family members, friends, or co-workers to host the shower. The only exception to this rule is that the parents should not throw their own shower since this is considered inappropriate.Regardless of who ends up hosting the baby shower, it is important that they spend time with the expectant parents to determine the individual they would like to invite and the types of gift needed most. Additionally, it is highly recommended that the soon-to-be parents register the gifts at their favorite stores. With this information, the host can make sure the guests know where to shop and can provide recommendations if needed. Creating A Realistic Budget

Author : Ramona Creel
Budgeting -- ooh, what a scary word! If you want to frighten someone whose finances are out of control, suggest that they tally up their expenses on a piece of paper. We all understand the value of such an exercise, but when it comes to the practicality of putting a budget together, we get cold feet. Budgeting doesn’t have to be so painful, when you have a systematic series of steps to follow.SET YOUR FINANCIAL GOALSAs with any other area of your life, it’s pointless to start down a financial path if you don’t you have some idea of where you want to end up. What is your REASON for creating a budget? Do you want to pay off your debts? Save for your kids’ college education? Put money away for retirement? Make a list of your financial goals for the next 6 months, year, 5 years, 10, 25 -- all the way through to old age. And don’t spend a lot of time worrying about feasibility -- if your goal is to be debt free in a year, don’t think about all of the reasons why you won’t be able to make it by that deadline. Just remember, where there’s a will, there’s a way!CREATE THE SHEETStart with either a sheet of legal paper -- or a spreadsheet program -- and create 12 columns. Label the top of each column with a month of the year, from January to December (duh!) Each row on your sheet will represent a different living expense -- groceries, gasoline, Starbucks coffee in the morning on the way to work. You’ll have better luck remembering everything that you spend money on if you think according to categories. "Automobile" would include gas, repairs, insurance, and taxes -- while "grooming" might be divided into clothes, makeup, haircuts, and facials.TRACK YOUR EXPENSESHow can you know what steps you need to take to reach your goal until you know exactly where you are right now? Most of us don’t have a clue where our money goes -- credit cards and ATM’s make it easy for money to just slip through our fingers. The first step is to create a list of STATIC EXPENSES -- things that cost the same amount every month, like rent and your car lease and student loan payments. Now these expenses are not completely "static" in the strictest sense of the word. You can reduce your rent or mortgage payment by finding a less expensive house -- and you could increase your loan payments to get rid of the debt faster. But for now, just itemize your regular monthly costs.Next, you want to evaluate your VARIABLE EXPENSES -- those costs that fluctuate from month to month. Groceries, entertainment, utilities, and clothing all fall into this category. The great thing about variable expenses is that you control (at least to a certain extent) how much of your budget these items eat up. But some of these costs come in large and unexpected chunks -- like car repairs and medical bills. So you might need to go through your last 12 months’ credit card and bank statements to get a clear idea of how much daily life costs you. And don’t forget about those expenses that are paid only intermittently -- like insurance. Tally each expense and divide the total by 12, to give you a clearer idea of how your costs spread out over a year’s time.ROOT OUT MONEY LEAKSNow I guarantee that you will not remember every expense, no matter how hard you strain your brain! Think about all of the things that you buy throughout your week without really paying attention -- snacks at work, a magazine when you stop for gas, that cup of coffee on your way in every morning. And don’t forget about the expenses you are racking up because of financial disorganization -- interest charges on your credit card debt, late fees because you forgot to return that movie on time, overdraft charges because you didn’t balance your checkbook. All of these fall into the category of unconscious spending. You just do it because it’s a habit. And although you think that a dollar here or fifty cents there is insignificant, it can really add up.So for a month, record every penny that leaves your hand, in the form of a check or cash or a credit card transaction. This may sound like a huge challenge, but you can do it! Make it convenient -- my husband stuck a small pencil and piece of paper in his wallet so he would be reminded to make a note every time he made a purchase. You will be stunned when you see where your money is really going! My husband was shocked to find out that he was spending almost a hundred dollars a month on that morning coffee (am I picking on Starbucks too much?!) What’s your vice -- eating out when you are feeling lazy? Buying every new CD or magazine that comes out? I’m not suggesting that you completely eliminate these habits -- just that you decide how often you can reasonably afford to indulge and still reach your other financial goals.DON’T FORGET YOUR DEBTSIt’s also important that you have some idea of your liabilities -- debts that still have to be repaid. Did you figure these payments in with your monthly expenses? If you are only counting the minimum monthly payment, you will never pay your debts off. You may not be able to do it right now -- but after we get your budget in order, the goal is to pay at least double the minimum amount on at least one of your liabilities each month. You should start with the credit card or loan that has the highest interest rate -- then tackle the next highest after the first debt is paid off. And if you can afford to pay more than double, go for it. You aren’t really free to start working on other financial goals until you know you are debt free.TALLY UP YOUR INCOMEDo you really know how much you make? The tendency is to quote whatever is printed on your employment contract -- to say, "I make _____ a year." But after taxes and Social Security and any other items that are deducted from your check, what are you actually bringing home? Take a minute to really examine all of your sources of income and calculate an honest total -- you can’t have a realistic budget without it!WHAT’S THE VERDICT?So, comparing income to expenses, how does it look? If you came out in the black, congratulations! How much do you have left over? Regardless of how small or large the amount is, start stashing it away into savings and investments! Your choice of how to proceed will depend on your financial goals -- investing for retirement will involve less liquidity and more risk than just saving for next year’s vacation. The main thing to remember is that you should build your savings and investments into your budget just like a bill -- and take care of these long-term responsibilities FIRST, before other costs. That’s the secret to good financial management. Now, if you ended up in the red, we need to talk. The first step is to look at spending which can be reduced or even eliminated. Start by examining those "spending leaks" -- if they give you pleasure and satisfaction, dandy. Certainly late fees and interest charges don’t fall into this category! But you can still overdo a good thing.Ask yourself if eating out 4 times a week gives you 4 times more pleasure than doing it just once. And could you get as much pleasure if you cooked a good homemade meal? Is the ridiculous mortgage on that 10,000 square foot house worth it? Or could you be just as happy (or even happier with less financial stress) in a place half the size? Also look for convenience expenses -- things that we spend money on because we are overwhelmed, too busy, or just worn out.Perhaps by re-evaluating how you use your time, you might discover that many of these expenses are just symptoms of misplaced priorities. When you arrive at a place where all of your spending decisions are DELIBERATE ones, you will find yourself several steps and quite a few dollars closer to a balanced budget that allows you to reach all of your financial goals.Ramona Creel is a Professional Organizer and the founder of OnlineOrganizing.com -- a web-based one-stop shop offering everything that you need to get organized at home or at work. MMOG Currency Revolution

Author : Ruibo Chen

MMOG currencies was first introduced from the popular game EverQuest (EQ) with their currency "platinum", also known as "plat". Since the first pioneers of selling plats on Ebay, many have argued and frowned upon those that have ever purchased plats online. I recall many players harassing others with foul names such as "newb" and "ebayer". It has been over 5 years that everyone has been arguing whether the secondary market of trading MMOG money would ever be accepted.Since the introduction of EverQuest platinum, there were probably more than 70% of players that wouldn?t even consider purchasing plats and discriminated against those who did. As of today, the numbers have been reduced extraordinarily. About 40% of the players now purchase currencies, 30% still disliking the idea and 30% of the other players probably does not care too much and may purchase some them selves in the near future.Although online game currency is still a new trend to the online gaming community, it is getting popular at a very hasty rate. Within the end of 2010, I believe even the publishers themselves will support the foundation of the secondary market. Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) have now begun their own EverQuest 2 gold auction system and planning to start a new MMORPG in which they intend to sell currencies and items themselves. With their support, I?m sure the secondary market will be accepted over a period of time. The secondary market is only as successful as the primary. With the release of World of Warcraft (WoW), there are now more than 4.5 million subscribers. A vast majority of those players are probably new to the MMORPG world. A large increase of subscribers means alot more potential for the secondary market. So far, WoW gold has been the hottest seller of the year and perhaps a few more years down the road. With the huge demand on, many players have even started a career in which they collect money, items and other virutal assets and sell them to players or to stores who may buy them at wholesale price and resell it back to individuals. The secondary market one day may even be bigger than the primary. Many gamers of today probably spend more on buying currencies, items and equipments than their subscription fee. The publishers themselves can't even deny the fact that there are lots of money to be made in the secondary market that over a vast period of time I'm sure they will be selling their virtual assets themselves. As for whether the players will support it or not, I believe is just a matter of time before acceptance, of course there will always be a few who will dislike the idea. Dedicated Hosting is the Only Way to Go

Author : Steve Dolan

HostingYouve made your sell a great web site. Through good design and better content, youve been able to build up a respectable amount of traffic. And then your web site is linked from Slashdot. Traffic to your site soars to levels you had only dreamed of. However, before you get the chance to benefit from your newfound popularity you exceed your bandwidth allocation and your hosting company takes your site offline. If youre relying on virtual hosting, it may be time to switch over to a dedicated hosting service.Dedicated HostingMost people who are new to web hosting use a virtual, or shared, hosting service. In a virtual hosting service you rent space and bandwidth on a common server. Your site will be just one of many on a single physical server. More experienced users will often use a dedicated hosting service. While with virtual hosting you are pretending that you have your own server, with dedicated hosting you actually get the whole server to yourself. Why Dedicated Hosting is Superior to Virtual HostingAlthough dedicated hosting can be significantly more expensive than virtual hosting, it has many benefits. Nonetheless, dedicated hosting is not necessary for everyone. It is therefore necessary to understand the advantages and disadvantages of each type of hosting when deciding what type of hosting service is best for you.The main benefit of using a virtual hosting service is it is fairly cheap. If you are looking for a relatively inexpensive way to get your content onto the Internet, virtual hosting is for you. However, along with the cheaper price comes many disadvantages to using virtual hosting. Because you are sharing the server with other web sites, the amount of space and bandwidth you can use will be limited. And because you are sharing our servers resources, if one web site starts to slow down under excessive traffic or server processes, your web sites performance will also be affected. You will also be limited in what types of software you want the server to run because you will not have any access to the server. If you want to install something on the server that is outside of the usual parameters, you will have to ask your server administrator to do it for you. And in many cases, it will not be worth the server administrators time to do it for you. Your web site will also be more vulnerable to security breaches, since a hacker just has to be able to get into one of the web sites to be able to access all the web sites on the server.A dedicated hosting service will avoid all the disadvantages of using a virtual server. The only disadvantage to using a dedicated hosting service is the price, especially if you are not particularly knowledgeable about server upkeep and have to use a managed service. So Should I use Dedicated Hosting or Virtual HostingIt is important to seriously consider what your budget is and what your web site needs to be effective. If your web site is just a blog or does not have a lot of content, than it will probably not use a lot of the servers resources and you will likely be fine with virtual hosting. For complex e-commerce sites, or web sites that receive a large amount of traffic, it may be more economical in the long run to use a dedicated hosting service. Circumcision, Is It Really Necessary?

Author : Heather Hill
Having a baby brings with it many decisions. From the moment that second pink line appears you are a parent. Some parenting decisions can be fun, like what color to paint the nursery. Other decisions require more research and discussion between the mother and her partner including, if the child is a boy, whether or not to circumcise. The decision to circumcise may be guided by your religious beliefs. Both Jews and Muslims circumcise as part of religious rites. The decision not to circumcise, however, may be one that you never considered. "Aren't most boys circumcised? Isn't it cleaner? Why wouldn't I want my son to look like his father and all the other boys in the locker room?" While these myths are prevalent in the United States and other parts of the Western world, the facts of circumcision tell a significantly different story.Circumcision of male infants is not a medically necessary procedure; it is plastic surgery for the penis. The practice of circumcision began in ancient Egypt, according to Desmond Morris in his book Babywatching. The ancient Egyptians believed that the snake shedding its skin was undergoing a rebirth and, thus, became immortal. They reasoned that if humans followed suit they, too, would attain immortality. The foreskin was equated to the snakeskin, and the practice of circumcision was begun. For centuries, the only reason for circumcision was a religious one. Non-faith based circumcision began with the Victorians during the mid-to-late 1800s. They believed that removing the foreskin would reduce the male's urge to masturbate. From that starting point, circumcision has been deemed by various groups to be more hygienic and credited as a preventative measure for diseases from chlamydia to HIV. In reality, removing the foreskin accomplishes none of these assertions and could result in more serious problems. The foreskin has several known functions, even in modern times. While some people suggest that its use has gone the way of the appendix, in reality the foreskin aids in the sexual health and enjoyment of men. The foreskin is a protective cover for the penis that needs no special care. At birth, the foreskin is attached to the head of the penis, much like fingernails are attached to the end of your fingers. It will remain attached until the boy is about ten years old. Premature retraction of the foreskin can lead to an increased chance of infection.Early life functions of the foreskin are to help in the proper development of the penile glans and to protect the glans from feces and urine-based ammonia in diapers. Throughout the man's life, the foreskin continues to protect the glans from friction and abrasion and keeps it lubricated and moisturized by coating it in a waxy, protective substance. When the man becomes sexually active, the foreskin allows sufficient skin to cover an erection by unfolding and aids in penetration by reducing friction and chafing. The foreskin is highly sensitive and is, in fact, an erogenous tissue rich with erogenous receptors. For his partner, the foreskin contacts and stimulates the female's G-spot.There are additional considerations when deciding upon whether your male infant will undergo circumcision. As with any medical procedure, there are complications presented by the choice to circumcise. In March 1999, the American Academy of Pediatrics concluded that any potential medical benefits are not significant, and the AAP no longer recommends circumcision as a routine procedure. Prior to consenting to a circumcision, the mother must sign a consent form outlining the risks of the procedure. These risks include hemorrhage (in about 2% of cases), infection, deformity, scarring, permanent bowing of the penis (chordee), and urinary retention from swelling, among other concerns, including loss of the penis. Though rare, death occurs in approximately 1 of every 5000 circumcisions. Many circumcisions are done without the use of anesthetic, but if anesthesia is used, there are additional complications presented by using anesthetic drugs on an infant.Despite the American perception, circumcision is not a worldwide practice. Eighty-two percent (82%) of the world's male population is intact. That leaves the 18% of circumcised men in the minority. Even in the U.S. circumcision rates are declining.Starting around World War II, rates of circumcised boys increased steeply as American births were moved from the home into the hospitals. Rates of U.S. circumcisions reached a plateau during the late 1980s. With the new century, rates of circumcision began a slow decline. In the latest census reports, from 2003, approximately 55% of American newborn boys are circumcised. Some sources believe that American circumcision rates will decrease steadily over the next generation and return to the pre-WWII ratio of approximately 1 of every 4 boys being circumcised.Whether or not to circumcise is a decision that must be made with concern for immediate and future implications for the male child. As more parents become aware of the choices they have in labor and birth, more parents are also making the decision not to circumcise. For more information on circumcision, visit www.nocirc.org.For more Natural Childbirth information, or to read more articles like this one, please visit www.hip-chick-pregnancy-guide.com

A Guide to Motor Scooters -

Author : Kent Pinkerton

Scooters were first known as a child"s push vehicle that dates back to before 1920. Advancements in technology led to the development of small engines, which, when added to the traditional scooter provided for a practical and affordable means of transportation. Motor scooters have been a favorite in European countries for decades. The low-power vehicle wasn"t too attractive to the power-hungry American market until recently. Sleek styling of the modern scooter, combined with the product being seen in a variety of films has opened the door to the American urban market.

Modern motor scooters feature either a small gasoline engine or an electric motor, depending upon the vehicles design. Modern scooters feature electric and gas motorized models. Competition among scooter manufacturers and continuing sales has led to unique design features, such as miniature low-powered motorcycles. Motorized scooters, whether the rider is to sit or stand, are considered low-power motor vehicles by many municipalities and are subject to state and local regulations. Some scooters meet Department of Transportation regulations for operation on streets and roadways while others are prohibited from being on the streets. Any time a motorized vehicle is introduced into traffic areas, appropriate cautionary measures must be taken and proper safety gear must be worn.

Scooters can be easily found in the retail market, however not all retailers may carry all styles. Major discount or department stores may only carry a couple of models that they believe will be the most popular among their shoppers. A scooter store could specialize in a variety of recreational scooters, while another store will specialize in the mobility scooters. Retailers also offer scooter accessories to enhance the experience as well as replacement parts and service. Any style of scooter can be purchased online for retail pricing. The current market demand for scooters makes it hard to find them at wholesale prices for a single purchase, but there are many opportunities for an individual to become a scooter dealer.

Prevent Self Harm

Author : Justin Meyer
When you are depressed, it is very easy to find ways to hurt yourself. Not just mentally or emotionally, but physically. This can range from the minor â€" banging your head against the wall, to the major â€" cutting yourself or even attempting suicide. Obviously, this is dangerous behavior no matter how minor it manifests itself and you need to find ways to prevent it.The first thing to do is identify your self-harming behaviors. It is not enough to identify what you do, but you should identify when you perform these behaviors as well. By identifying both parts of it, then you will be able to start working on ending the behaviors. Most of the time, these behaviors are stress-induced. The best first step is to try and find alternative stress-reducing activities. However, sometimes, the most important first step is eliminating the tools. If you frequently use a razor or specific knife to cut, then remove them from your home. If that isn’t possible, find alternate ways to act out this behavior as you try to eliminate it. Try finding harmless ways to act it out, using pillows or other soft objects that won’t cause pain.In the meantime, it is important that your psychiatrist and therapist know about this behavior. Your doctor may prescribe medication to help you with your stress levels and your therapist will be able to work out the causes of your stress with you. Even in the short-term, you need to be able to work on the stress in a more productive manner and your therapist will be able to help you work on techniques for that.Learn to alleviate your depression at http://www.curemydepression.com

Screenwriter Help: Hero's Journey and Making the Transformation Real

Author : Kal Bishop
The Hero's Journey is the template upon which the vast majority of successful stories and Hollywood blockbusters are based upon. Understanding this template is a priority for story or screenwriters:The Hero's Journey:• Attempts to tap into unconscious expectations the audience has regarding what a story is and how it should be told.• Gives the writer more structural elements than simply three or four acts, plot points, mid point and so on.• Interpreted metaphorically, laterally and symbolically, allows an infinite number of varied stories to be created. The Hero's Journey is also a study of repeating patterns in successful stories and screenplays. It is compelling that screenwriters have a higher probability of producing quality work when they mirror the recurring patterns found in successful screenplays. The Hero's Journey is also a study of conventions. Before screenwriters can decide whether to accept or reject the conventions, they must appreciate their purpose and value.Consider this:• Titanic (1997) grossed over $600,000,000 – uses the Hero's Journey as a template.• Star Wars (1977) grossed over $460,000,000 - uses the Hero's Journey as a template.• Shrek 2 (2004) grossed over $436,000,000 - uses the Hero's Journey as a template.• ET (1982) grossed over $434,000,000 - uses the Hero's Journey as a template.• Spiderman (2002) grossed over $432,000,000 - uses the Hero's Journey as a template.• Out of Africa (1985), Terms of Endearment (1983), Dances with Wolves (1990), Gladiator (2000) – All Academy Award Winners Best Film are based on the Hero's Journey.• Anti-hero stories (Raging Bull (1980), Goodfellas (1990) etc) are all based on the Hero's Journey.• Heroine's Journey stories (Million Dollar Baby (2004), Out of Africa (1980) etc) are all based on the Hero's Journey.Hero's Journey and making the transformation realA number of tools can be employed to make the Transformation (also known as the Road of Trials) real.a) Grow the antagonist at the same time as you transform the hero. In Gladiator (2000), while Maxmus is training to become a gladiator, we learn about Commodus and his plans. In Silence of the Lambs (1991), we begin to learn about Buffalo Bill while Hannibal helps Clarice through her transformation.b) For the hero, create two passive learning trials and then one active showing-he-has-learned trial. In The Matrix (1999), Neo begins his transformation by learning martial arts by simulation (passive), then through instruction by Morpheus (passive) and then he has to jump the building (active).c) Make the World of the Transformation markedly different from the Hero's Ordinary World and show him becoming comfortable in it. In Empire Strikes Back (1980), Yoda's World is markedly different from Goth, the planet he has jsut come from.Learn more…The Complete 188 stage Hero's Journey and FREE 17 stage sample and other story structure templates can be found at http://managing-creativity.com/You can also receive a regular, free newsletter by entering your email address at this site.Kal Bishop, MBAYou are free to reproduce this article as long as no changes are made and the author's name and site URL are retained.Kal Bishop is a management consultant based in London, UK. Help! Your Heart is Missing From Your Scrapbooking Journaling - Part 5

Author : Fion Lim

In your scrapbooking journaling, don't fall into the trap of
journaling rut.

You don't always have to assume the role of the reporter style,
lying down all the facts and figures. Experiment with various
styles. Become a storyteller on one layout and a TV presenter in
another layout. How about writing in a food critic or a fashion
editor format? Have fun switching roles now and there.

Remember to keep a conversational tone to keep your story easy
to read. What happens when you begin to journal in a
conversational manner, it's not only easier for people to read
but you also become more confident in writing. Because you know
that you are writing as if you're sharing and talking to
someone.

Besides getting up close and personal, add in specifics to paint
a picture in your readers' mind too. Look underneath the surface
and dig deep and draw out the interesting specifics to make your
journaling tastier.

Add in humor to your scrapbooking journaling too. It'll attract
and keep your readers entertain. There's no need to be all
serious in your writing. You are the master storyteller telling
your stories, so write out your stories exactly as they
happened.

Kick away your inhibitions and your journaling will never be
boring!

In fact, a great journaling idea is to record down snippets of
conversation you picked up. It's so much more fun and adds life
to your pages instantly. And conversation inevitably draw people
into the stories immediately because there's "voices" to be
found on the pages. That's scrapbooking journaling from the
heart.

And when making meaningful journal entries, you don't always
have to use your own words. Do you enjoy collecting quotes or
poems? Well, I have my list of favorite quotes and this list
keeps on expanding. Maybe you have a huge collection of poems
and quotes. Use them well. When you match-make the right quote
to scrapbooking layouts, it'll evoke just the right mood and
convey what you can't bring across in your own words.

Why not create your own little poem. Yeah. Don't swallow that
hard and go, "What? Me writing a poem, you must be kidding!" I'm
dead serious and besides you have nothing to lose by penning a
few poems for your own scrapbooks.

You aren’t joining any competition but rather having a little
fun. I’m sure your kids will be pretty impressed, “Wow, mom you
mean you actually wrote this?”

I have a small collection of poems written and hidden somewhere
in one of my storage boxes when I moved house. It’s like the
moment you wrote one, you’ll write another one, and then another
one. Creating poems will make you feel a little smug too even
though it’s far from being polished works.

Plus it’s a page-stopper, making people take a second look when
they realized that it’s you who penned the little poem. They’ll
glimpse into your heart and soul for a few short moments.

Scrapbooking journaling from the heart might be slightly more
challenging. Yet the words sprung up from your heart speak
volumes of you as a person.

When you reach the point whereby you can’t help yourself but
keep going back to your scrapbooks and reading your own
journaling, you know you’ve made it.

You have begun scrapbooking journaling from your heart.

Give yourself a pat on your shoulder for a job well done.

Finding the Right Ballet Shoes

Author : Amber Heil
Choosing the proper pair of ballet shoes is an important and tricky process when taking ballet lessons. There are many different types of ballet shoes to choose from, so choosing your shoes wisely can be very overwhelming. Below are some hints on how to select the best ballet shoe for your foot and experience level.Leather & Canvas Soles
A leather full-sole ballet shoe is the ideal shoe for beginning students. The sole, strong yet flexible, helps younger dancers build strong feet. Another good shoe for younger dancers with a bit more experience is a leather split-sole ballet shoe. The split-sole molds better to the foot than the full-sole and also gives a more flattering line. An alternative to this shoe is the canvas split-sole ballet shoe. This shoe hugs the arch to perfection and has minimal ridges under the metatarsal.Canvas Ballet Shoes
There are also quite a few shoes to choose from for more advanced dancers. Some canvas ballets are made of soft canvas that molds to the foot. This reduces under-foot lumps and creasing when the foot is pointed. These shoes may also feature a heel seam cushion for a perfect line of the foot. Less expensive alternatives to the more advanced canvas split-sole ballet shoe are available as well. These canvas ballets are a little more basic, but are soft and comfortable while providing an excellent fit. Other canvas ballets provide more comfort for the foot and a better feel for the floor. A "sculpted" construction in some shoes works with the foot during motion and prevents bags and bunches when the foot is pointed. Canvas split-sole ballet shoes are by far the most popular shoes with more advanced dancers.Split Soles
There are newer high-tech leather split-sole ballet shoes that are becoming more popular. Certain leather split-sole ballet shoes are made of Second Skin Leather with Lycra® for a sleek, snug fit that will "stretch and return" for longer lasting capability. Seamless arches and elastic drawstrings allow the shoe to completely conform to the foot without wrinkles or bulkiness. One newly developed ballet shoe has the center part of the shoe completely removed and replaced with an elastic framework. This allows the foot ultimate flexibility while maintaining the traditional appearance of a ballet shoe. The elastic bridges and supports the instep so the foot will be entirely secure. You Can Find the Perfect Fit in Ballet Shoes
It is now possible to find the perfect fit for any foot with the many advances in ballet shoe construction. When ordering shoes, keep in mind that each shoe runs quite differently in sizing so it can be very tricky to find the perfect size. Most web sites should have sizing charts and instructions for each different type of shoe. To avoid the confusion of ordering shoes online, it is advised to purchase shoes directly from a retail store with employees who are experienced in fitting all types of shoes.Amber Heil has worked at Pampos Dance & Swim for over 4 years and has been a manager for over 3 years. With 16 years of ballet training, Heil is knowledgeable in other areas of ballet such as forecasting trends in ballet wear. She is currently studying marketing at Louisiana State University (LSU) and will graduate in December 2006.

Network Marketing Success Lead Generation Tips

Author : Deana Miller
More people everyday who want success in network marketing are asking about lead generation techniques. Most organizations today are not teaching new recruits the art of lead generation techniques. Most network marketers are left to struggle and learn by their own mistakes. These techniques should be taught showing the recruit that that they can be rejection free. Here are some of the ways to generate leads1. As you listen and talk to people on a daily basis, you need to listen to their complaints, and when you hear them complaining, ask them "Would you like to do something about it?"2. Big "AL" Tom Schreiter has an approach that is completely different. He will ask the question "What are your two major health challenges?" or "What are your two major financial concerns?" Usually, they will definitely tell you. Then you ask, "Would you like to do something about it?"3. Some companies think that Business Cards are the answer. Most beginners in Network marketing buy expensive cards with their company log on and start distributing them. This does not seem to work in network marketing. Even though it may make you feel you are doing business, it is a waste of money. Most cards end up in the garbage can. However, if you put information on the card which will drive the person to call you or lead them to a lead capture page, then you may see a little results. Big Al's favorite trick is a simple message: Call xxx-xxx-xxxx and request your free copy of the best seller book "How to get rich without winning the lottery."4. Collect Business cards: this is a good lead generation technique for you. Call them as leads.5. Place your cards strategically. The Growth Pro system is based on this technique. You may leave them in magazines if you are in the doctor's office. Maybe you want to have them listen to a conference call. Other people use the fake 'hundred dollar' bill with a curiosity message that leads to calling. The call back phone number should always be a Voice mail.6. Some prefer Car Signs. Driving to work with a car sign on your car is cheap and is one to get peoples curiosity and usually commands attention. It should never be the name of your company, but a purchased domain name which will lead you to the web site.7. T-Shirts are another form of advertising. Here again the shirts should trigger curiosity and command attention.8. Buttons are yet another way to demand attention. Some companies have built an empire with buttons. Losing weight is a great way to tell everyone you have. Again, do not use your company's name; use a slogan that will command attention and curiosity.9. With Door Hangers success depends on the neighborhood. With this method you would need to include an offer and a deadline to create urgency.10. Give away an ebook which can help you learn skills. Not only will a free ebook give you some great techniques, but help you to understand other ways of prospectingIf you want network marketing success you need every tool available for you and learning the techniques of lead generation skills will lead people to you.Let Deana give you tips on how to approach potential recruits with confidence and ease. Learn to build your business by becoming a leader who builds for the future. Let her help you build a great recurring income that will pay your children's children.

Walkie Talkies

Author : Ian Williams
In this age of the mobile phone, walkie talkies, or two-way radios, seem like an anachronism. However, many people who grew up before the 1990s may recall that no respectable private eye or detective story was complete without a walkie talkie being used while following a suspect or chasing a criminal! You may not be the sort who likes to follow suspects or chase criminals as part of your daily activities, but you could still use a walkie talkie in your daily life. If you enjoy outdoor activities, love to go motorcycling, work in a school, college, pub or club or look after a little baby at home, you would find a walkie talkie a very useful gadget. You may need a walkie talkie system if your job requires you to move around from one point to another within a three kilometre range. The benefit over mobile phones is that they are license free and do not have any associated call charges. For instance, you can use a regular baby monitor if you are at home downstairs and your baby is asleep upstairs, but what happens if you need to visit a neighbour? Some walkie talkies have a wider range than regular baby monitors and also include a "baby monitor" mode. You can leave one radio in the baby's room and take the other wherever you go—when the baby wakes up or begins to cry, you will know at once. The Cobra MT725 Value Pack is ideal for this.Workers in pubs or clubs, or teachers and staff members in schools and colleges would find walkie talkies very effective and useful when communicating with colleagues. In both cases, workers and staff members may have to respond to emergencies, and may not be near a telephone. Walkie talkies can be clipped onto belts, and come with an earpiece-microphone combination to enable discreet communication. All you need to do to send a message is to press the Push to Talk button on the handset.Motorcyclists can use a walkie talkie system that fits into their motorcycle helmets, along with the Push to Talk button that is mounted on the motorcycle handlebar or the recommended voice activation via a MICVOX. If you plan a motorcycle holiday with a group of friends, this system should enable you to stay in touch, over a distance of a mile, in all kinds of weather. You will also find a walkie talkie very useful on a skiing or mountaineering holiday—you may not be able to use mobile phones in the mountains or abroad as the roaming charges may be more than you want to pay!If you are on the lookout for a suitable walkie talkie, all you need to do is take a virtual walk down our aisles at BB-Shopping.com. We stock Cobra and Entel Euro-Wave walkie talkies that you can use at home and outdoors. You can also purchase walkie talkie accessories and download manuals from our site.Ian WilliamsWalkie Talkies

Hair Loss Prevention- Why Do Castrated Men Never Go Bald?

Author : Whozylee Aris
Note-This content only presents overviews of hair loss
prevention research for educational purposes and does not
replace medical advice from a professional physician. The best start to preventing hair loss is understanding the
basics of hair: what it is, how it grows, what system
malfunctions can cause it to stop growing. Most common hair loss comes under what has been commonly
known as Male Pattern Baldness (MPB). Although referred to
as MPB, females suffer a similar syndrome, so it is more
properly called androgenetic alopecia. Although hair loss
is not life or health threatening, it can cause serious
problems with a person’s psyche and self-confidence. There
has been no absolute cure found for hair loss, and many
factors of hair loss are hereditary, however there are
several preventative measures one can take to maintain
healthy hair and scalp.Although both men and women can suffer significant hair
loss, over 50% of men will suffer with Male Pattern
Baldness (MPB), also known as androgenetic alopecia, at
some point in their lives. The reason behind hair loss is a
genetically inherited sensitivity to Dihydrotestosterone
(DHT) and 5-alpha-reductase. The enzyme 5-alpha-reductase
converts testosterone, a male hormone, to DHT, the
substance identified as the end-cause for hair loss.Hair loss has been noticed and studied throughout the ages,
and some interesting discoveries were made in ancient
times. For one it was noticed that eunuchs: those males
without genitals-never went bald. Men who were castrated as
a result of accidents in battle also never went bald. This
was the first indication that testosterone had something to
do with hair loss. It has also been found that the more
recessive the hair gene, the more propensity toward
baldness one has. Some common myths have arisen concerning hair loss. Because
of medical advancements many of these myths are being
addressed and corrected. For starters, although
androgenetic alopecia or pattern baldness is genetic and
therefore can be hereditary, it is not passed down through
only your mother’s side of the family. Either side of the
family can pass down the genetic disposition toward
baldness. Also, contrary to old family tales, wearing hats
does not cause baldness either.Beyond the genetic propensity of certain people toward hair
loss, there seems to be various dietary triggers that
activate the process, a notion that is promising since this
can be controlled. The effects of high-fat diets and the increase of DHT
(Dihydrotestosterone), a chemical produced by the body
found to cause hair loss, is not conclusive at this time.
However, there does seem to be a connection; as societies
that consumed relatively low-fat diets such as pre-World
War II Japan experienced almost no pattern baldness,
whereas in post-World War II Japan there is an increase in
pattern baldness as their society consumes a higher fat
diet. In fact, Asian and African men in their native
countries traditionally suffer very little Male Pattern
Baldness (MPB). Although when the same peoples come to
North America, they begin to develop MPB.Because people of all races and ethnicities tend to develop
MPB or androgenetic alopecia, yet do not exhibit these
tendencies before moving to America, changes in diet may be
a leading contributing factor. Diets high in fat do
increase testosterone, which is the main component in DHT.
More research needs to be done on this topic to reach
conclusive evidence, although it certainly could not hurt
to lower one’s fat intake. There are a number of foods and substances to avoid and
limit the intake of. Substances such as alcohol, caffeine,
sugar and nicotine can deplete the body of nutrients and
raise adrenal levels, which will cause a chain reaction of
producing more androgen and causing hair loss. High levels
of saturated fat and cholesterol rich foods are also linked
to increased DHT levels and their consumption should be
limited. Additionally, common table salt has been linked to
hair loss. And the average diet provides the recommended
amount of sodium intake; therefore, salt should never be
added to food. However, when using salt for seasoning
during cooking, be sure to use salt with Iodine being that
it is a nutrient that is vital to hair growth as well,
unless you are a regular consumer of seafood, which
contains high levels of Iodine.Although hair loss can be caused by many other variables,
lack of proper nutrition will assuredly cause hair loss in
many people. Fortunately, adopting a proper diet that
includes the proper nutrients can reverse hair loss caused
by malnutrition. One thing for certain, regardless of
whether your hair loss was caused by malnutrition or not,
adopting a healthier diet will help the function of other
areas of the body. There are some methods that have been used that prevent
hair loss on some people, in addition to the dietary
improvements, there are some naturopathic remedy
suggestions. Massage and aromatherapy have been used with
some success. In minor cases of temporary hair loss, hair
growth can be stimulated by massage, since blood and oxygen
flow to the scalp must be healthy in order for hair to
grow. A blend of six drops each of lavender and bay
essential oils in a base of four ounces of either almond,
soybean or sesame oil massaged into the scalp and allowed
to sit for 20 minutes has been used by aroma therapists to
stimulate the scalp. Once the mixture is in the scalp for
20 minutes, wash your hair and scalp with your normal
shampoo mixed with three drops of bay essential oil.
Massaging the scalp in general for a couple of minutes a
day can stimulate blood flow to the hair follicles and in
mild cases stimulate some hair growth. Of course, one must
be careful to be gentle when massaging and not tug at the
hair or use the fingernails when massaging the scalp. If
one is concerned about fingernails getting in the way due
to extra long fingernails, there are several options. One
is a flat-handed massage, which while not as effective as
the finger massage can provide some circulatory benefits
and results. There are several electric massagers on the market that
have an attachment for scalp massaging as well. An oriental
method called Qi Gong (pronounced Chi Kung) has been used
to increase circulation to the scalp and face also. The
fingers should be placed at the center of the skull base
and then begin to tap approximately 30 times. Work your way
outward toward the ears continuing to tap gently. After
reaching the ears go back to the center of the skull a
little higher up and work your way around to the ear
region. Keep going up about eight levels, each time
repeating the process. There is a definite connection between the prostate and
hair loss for men, and therefore a connection between
breakthroughs in BPH treatments developed and their
effectiveness in restoring hair growth. There have been
some herbalists that have experimented with the herb Saw
Palmetto in order to block the production of DHT in
treating BPH. Although most studies of Saw Palmetto have
been for the treatment of prostatic disease, more recent
studies have been conducted on its effectiveness in
treating loss. The herb has been found to work in fighting
benign prostatic disease by lowering levels of DHT, which
is a known cause of androgenetic alopecia. Studies have
shown Saw Palmetto extract is an effective anti-androgen
and therefore there is promise for its effectiveness as an
effective treatment for hair loss prevention.Rosemary and sage are two herbs that have shown benefit
traditionally when used externally. It is suggested that to
promote a clean scalp, stimulation of the hair root, and
thickening hair one should boil together in water rosemary,
sage, peach leaf, nettle and burdock. Then strain the loose
herbs from the liquid and use the liquid to wash the hair
daily. Also recommended is steeping one ounce of ground
rosemary, two ounces of ground sage, and a half ounce of
ground nettles in one pint of ethyl alcohol for a week,
straining the solution and adding one ounce of castor oil
and one ounce of water to the liquid. This is said to make
a great hair lotion to apply at night before bed or just
before shampooing.Hair is a living protein, and as with any living part of
our bodies we must be sure to maintain proper health to
optimize our chances of maintaining a healthy head of hair.
Proper nutrition is vital to maintaining healthy hair,
since the hair is a living and growing part of the body’s
system. Viewing it in this manner can help us to treat our
bodies different and raise expectations through proper
care. A healthy balanced diet, occasionally with the help
of vitamin and mineral supplements and exercise are all key
components to a healthy regimen of maintaining healthy
hair. There is an obvious link to hair loss and prostatic health
and this only increases the pace of hair loss discoveries.
Most treatments for prostatic diseases such as benign
prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) also have the pleasant side
affect of growing hair on the heads of those taking it.
With the pace of research and discoveries today, there is a
great deal of optimism in the field of hair loss prevention
and treatment. Hair is an important part of our dress and
appearance, therefore a large part of our self-esteem. It
is likely that there are answers for your situation
presently or coming in the near future.Remember, the restoration of hair growth is not an
overnight process. The process takes time regardless of the
method chosen. Be patient and follow as much of the advice
given by professionals as possible. Keep in mind that the
body is a system, and it is the abuse of this system by
food intake and environmental causes that lead to most
common hair loss.Already suffering from hair loss? Get a free Hair Loss

Settlement Loan

Author : Wensley McKenney

The legal system in America is currently stretched with more personal injury lawsuits than it can comfortably process. Many insurance carriers are taking a stronger stand in the settlement process which increases the length of time to resolution in many cases. The victims of personal injury are being hurt the most by this reality because they are often out of work and have difficult time making ends meet until they receive a settlement or judgment in their case.Fortunately, Global Financial Credit, LLC (<a href="http://www.glofin.com" target=new>http://www.glofin.com) offers low cost settlement loans against pending legal claims. A Settlement Loan is not actually a loan but rather a cash advance against any proceeds that may be received from the pending litigation. If you are injured and have hired a lawyer to represent you then you qualify for a settlement loan against the potential future proceeds you may receive from your lawsuit. You do not have to personally guarantee anything and there are no credit checks or income verifications.Global will advance you a portion of your future settlement dollars today in return for a portion of your proceeds when the case settles. If the case is lost for any reason then no money is owed back to the funding company. The plaintiff would keep the money that was advanced from the Settlement Loan for free. Settlement Loan advances can be used for the necessary living expenses that so many injured people fall behind on when they have been in a major accident. Global does not charge any application or upfront fees to apply. Once a plaintiff receives a settlement loan advance from Global there is a monthly fee of 3.99% that accumulates until the case is settled won by judgment. For those who have been injured in any type of accident and have a pending legal or worker compenstaion claim, Global Financial can provide you with some of your future settlement dollars, today. Wensley McKenney is a Managing Director at Global Financial Credit, LLC. He has 15 years experience in the financial and legal fields.<a href="mailto:wensley@glofin.com">wensley@glofin.com

Designing your Web Site for ALL Browsers

Author :

<b>Designing your Web Site for ALL Browsers</b><br><p>&nbsp;by: <b>David Bell</b><p><p><p><p>Let's face it. Building a web site that browses consistently on multiple platforms and multiple browsers is not always as easy as we would like. <p><p>It is safe to say that most designers spend most of their time building their sites on a given platform. Those with the highest standards should, upon completion, take a look at their creation in different browsers and different platforms. <p><p>Sure, you could see how it looks in Window 98 with Internet Explorer and let that be good enough, but do you really want to risk a bad web experience for millions and millions of potential visitors? Consider this.... <p><p>A recent statistic I saw reported that 12% of internet users were Macintosh users. Ignoring this fact is like creating a catalog that can only be optimally viewed by one in eight of your customers.Furthermore, not all of the Windows users are using Windows 98. Windows 95 continues to be widely used, and Windows 2000 and NT represent a significant percentage of visitors. <p><p>It would be remiss to ignore the small, but growing contingency of Linux users. Though small in number at this time, the popularity of the OS grows daily. <p><p>Platform issues aside, Internet Explorer, despite Microsoft's inclusion of it with all Windows Installations, does not represent the only browser option. Netscape continues to enjoy a strong following of users numbering in the millions, and Lotus Notes is being used by numerous corporations as the "standard" browser and e-mail application. <p><p>Then, of course, there is AOL. Although basically an IE engine "under the hood" AOL continues to include certain differences. Considering the vast numbers of AOL users, this browser must not be overlooked. If your site does not look good in AOL, then you are risking turning away a huge percentage of potential visitors. <p><p>It should be clear that cross platform and multiple browser compatibility is a must. Therefore, understanding a few very basic and simple techniques to help keep your pages looking their best in the most places is also a must. Following, you will find a few tips and ideas to help you do just that. <p><p>#1 Paint the canvas your visitors will see <p><p>As a web site designer wanting to be as efficient in my work as possible, I have configured my Mac to use two monitors. As my mouse leaves the screen of one, it appears on the other. Thus, I have a canvas that, on most days, is 1856 pixels wide over 32 horizontal inches. If I want to, I can easily boost that to over 2000 pixels wide. But, my clients and the average visitor on the web do not have two monitors. In fact, most of them have the screen resolution set to 800 X 600 or 1024 X 768. What's more, every single time I have gone to a client who uses AOL, their browser window opens to what looks to be a 640 pixel wide default no mater how large the monitor or screen resolution. <p><p>On one of my first projects, I had designed a site to a modest 700 pixel wide format with a nice top navigation area. I went to my clients office to get some "point and discuss" feedback to find her new 21 inch monitor -- set at 640X480 resolution. My designs looked terrible! <p><p>If you intend your web site to appeal to the broadest range of visitors, you need to design in a way that will look good even at low resolutions. Check with some of your typical visitors and see what kind of resolutions they normally use. <p><p>#2 Use Tables to Control Width <p><p>Tables are great things when trying to control the way text and images go together. In order to achieve a nice looking design, using tables is the first technique to consider. <p><p>Tables can be assigned a fixed width in pixels or a fixed percentage of the window width. There are advantages to both approaches. If you are not concerned about the relative vertical arrangement of objects in a table cell, using the fixed percentage allows for more fluid layouts. <p><p>If, however, you want to keep text wrapped around an image with more consistency, using the percent approach could lead to major differences. Text will wrap quite differently in a cells of different pixel widths. <p><p>To have better control, consider using fixed pixel width. However, you must now start making some compromises. If you want to offer a site that looks good at 640X480, you will need to set your table width to 600 -- 620 MAX! You will want to center the table in the window to provide a nice look when wider windows are used. However, if your visitor has monitor resolutions set to 1600X800 and has the browser "maximized" your page will have 500 pixels of blank space on either side of your 600 pixel table. <p><p>Fortunately, few people will be browsing at this configuration. My experience visiting clients, friends, and family suggests that, even if monitor resolution is set at over 1000 pixels, the actual width of the browser window will be reduced to something less. <p><p>You must decide if you will risk an odd looking page for those few who have HUGE monitor resolution or risk the annoying scroll bar for those with the basic 640X480 <p><p>#3 Compromise your Font Use. <p><p>Supposing you select a fixed width table and have a cell that is 300 pixels wide. You write a headline in this cell, pick a font, and size it to look just right. Good for you. Too bad that headline will come up different on different systems. <p><p>Even on the same computer, there are very slight differences between how Netscape and IE render fonts. Remember the 1 in 8 visitor using a Mac? For technical reason it is beyond the scope of this article to describe, fonts are significantly smaller on a Mac than on Windows. Don't forget that your visitors can also set the default size for font display in their browser, too. If they do that, you are really starting to lose control of how fonts are displayed! <p><p>One solution is to use cascading style sheets, but that technique goes beyond the casual designer's typical experiences. The other solution is to compromise. Make sure that it looks good on the predominant platform -- currently Windows -- but don't use the smallest font possible either or your Mac visitors won't be able to read it! <p><p>#4 Check Your Final on Multiple Platforms <p><p>I commit to my web design clients that their site will be look good to ALL visitors. To make sure this is the case, I have an Intel computer as well as my Macintosh. I have the Intel computer configured to boot into Windows 98, Windows 2000, and Linux. I test all the pages I design in these environments. I test in both Netscape and Internet Explorer on the Windows systems and the Mac. I enlist a partner to test with Lotus Notes and AOL. <p><p>This may seem excessive, but frequently there will be some little thing that shows up in one of the platform/browser configurations that requires some minor correction. Would it be good enough if I did not make the correction? Probably. However, it is always best to make a good first impression and on the web, where you have about 5 to 7 seconds to get visitors to commit to take an actual look, every little thing counts. <p><p>If you do not have access to multiple platforms, enlist your friends. Stop by a library or a Kinkos and use their computers (often these places may have Macintosh computers as well as Windows computers). <p><p>These four simple suggestions are the beginning of a journey toward the much larger goal of making the content of your web site universally available to your visitors. Ultimately, reaching this goal depends upon many factors. However, progress toward this goal must commence with awareness. <p><p>Understanding that your site will appear differently on different browsers and based on different user preference settings is an important first step toward awareness. Using tables and being conscientious with your use of fonts takes you one step further. Checking your work on various systems will begin to hint at how much further you have to go. <p><p>But, every journey must begin somewhere.... <p><p>I hope this helps in your future marketing decisions. <p><p><p><p><p><tablgin e width=100% cellpadding=8 cellspacing=0 border=0 bgcolor=#dddddd><p><tr><td><p><p><b>About The Author</b><br><p><p><p>David Bell is Manager, Online Marketing, at <a href="http://www.wspromotion.com/" target=new>http://www.wspromotion.com/</a>, a leading Search Engine Optimization services firm and Advertising Agency. <p><p><p><p><p></td></tr><p></table>
